Friday afternoon, a van caught fire after an automobile collision close to the drawbridge, Oak Bluffs deputy fire chief Stephen Foster informed the Gazette over the phone. Although there were two automobiles involved in the collision, neither of the drivers accepted a ride to the hospital, he claimed.

According to Mr. Foster, a Ford Transit van and an SUV were involved in a two-car collision when the Oak Bluffs fire department was called to the Oak Bluffs side of the drawbridge at 3:38 p.m. The van was completely engulfed in flames when Mr. Foster arrived, and the Oak Bluffs police reported that columns of smoke were blocking traffic on both sides of the drawbridge and filled the air.

“The van appeared to be fully involved,” he said, adding that it appeared to be a rear-end collision.

He claimed that firefighters got to work putting out the van’s fire and did it in less than 10 minutes. According to him, the fire was put out using little under 1,000 liters of water.

According to Mr. Foster, the two drivers were unharmed in the incident, fled their vehicles, and then dialed 911 when the van started fire.

They noticed the transport van was on fire after hearing a pop, according to Mr. Foster.

The crash and the fire debris were reported to the state department of transportation, he continued.
