On Thursday evening, a catastrophic collision in Ozaukee County that closed Interstate 43 in both directions claimed the lives of two semi-trailer truck drivers.

According to a press statement from the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office, a northbound truck driver crossed into the southbound lanes and collided with another truck.

According to the sheriff’s office, the collision took place in the town of Belgium at 6:30 p.m. it was located just south of Sandy Beach Road.

According to the sheriff’s office, the interstate was shut down from State Highway 23 to County Highway D on Thursday night and would stay so until further notice.

Large black smoke clouds and tall flames can be seen in videos taken by persons who were on the scene.

The identities of the drivers were not immediately disclosed.
