The child was abused by inappropriate touching and other sexual actions, according to the report, and the child froze during the abuse. When the girl started weeping, the suspect allegedly urged her to go into the restroom and “wipe off her face so the others wouldn’t know she was crying,” the police officer said in the report. The girl was apparently locked in a corner while the suspect allegedly raped her.

Detectives were able to corroborate the child’s story with evidence from their months-long investigation, which led them to a second victim who is now an adult and claims to have been abused by Guzman when they were both living in the Salt Lake City region as children.

Several interviews with the child revealed that the abuse began when the youngster was just three years old and included sexual behaviors such as unwanted touching.

According to the article, the suspect was challenged by a relative who said the suspect had sexually abused one of the children. The molestations reportedly took place in both Salt Lake City and St. George.

Guzman acknowledged his residences in Salt Lake City and St. George during an interview with police, corroborating the information authorities had gathered on him from numerous interviews conducted since June.

Some years ago, the suspect was apparently questioned if there was a conflict involving reports that Guzman was sexually assaulting a youngster; he allegedly affirmed that there was, but denied ever touching either child.

An interview with the suspect allegedly revealed his assertion that police’s claims were “essentially made up.”

After discussing the case with the Washington County Attorney’s Office, the detectives advised Guzman that he would soon be arrested.

Suspect turned himself in to police on Monday at the St. George location. Following his arrest on Tuesday, he was taken to Purgatory Correctional Facility to face six counts of first-degree criminal child sexual abuse.

The defendant’s bail was set at $100,000, and he remains in detention.

Statements from law enforcement or other responders were used to compile this report; nevertheless, it may not reflect the entire spectrum of findings. Anyone arrested or prosecuted must be deemed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law or by some other trier of fact.
