An investigation into allegations of domestic violence has resulted in the temporary suspension of a police officer in Logan.
On August 18th, 31-year-old Michael Ryan Montoya was taken into custody for questioning regarding unlawful detention and four counts of assault. Criminal investigators are looking into allegations that he caused serious physical harm to another person.
The chief of police in Logan, Gary Jensen, has confirmed that Montoya is an officer there and has placed him on unpaid leave.
The chief stated, “Until he goes through the process, the criminal process, there is a presumption of innocence.”
On July 18, a woman called police to report multiple incidents of domestic violence.
The woman reported to police that two months prior, while the couple was arguing in their Wellsville home, Montoya “plowed (her) over using his chest and bodyweight to hit her,” as stated in a police booking affidavit. She said the woman stumbled backward and hit her head on the wall.
The woman told police that she and Montoya had texted back and forth about the incident. She claimed that she had a headache and texted Montoya about it, but that she was too afraid to go to the doctor. Montoya allegedly asked her what she would say to doctors if she needed medical attention, and if she said she had been knocked down during an argument, the doctors would have to call the police.
