Bountiful man convicted of kidnapping wife

BOUNTIFUL — A Bountiful man has been found guilty of assaulting and kidnapping his estranged wife in 2014.

Dwayne Rowland, 48, was convicted Wednesday of aggravated kidnapping, assault and domestic violence charges, the Standard-Examiner reports.

Rowland was accused of taking Synthia Rowland from her Bountiful home and holding her against her will. She was found near Blanding in San Juan County the following morning.

Synthia Rowland, who has since divorced Dwayne Rowland, testified that her estranged husband had assaulted her, put her in handcuffs and forced her into his SUV.

Prosecutors say Synthia Rowland didn’t try to escape because she was afraid for her life.
